This was one of the odder sections of the path that we walked. After getting hopelessly lost in Plymouth at the end of our last stage, and failing to connect with the southern end of the Two Moors Way through a simple inability to judge distances on a map, we set out with a powerful air of caution. Parts of this stage are fascinating to visit and as pretty as a picture but others are drab, difficult and ugly. The river valleys also pose an incredible challenge since you need a supernatural degree of organisation to co-ordinate all the tidal ferries and arrive at each during its hours of operation.
